Uenoidae formerly classified in the Limnephilidea family under Neophylacinae. The genus Neophylax consists of twenty five-species listed in North America of which five are known through out the Upper Delaware area, with another four listed in PA only. I guess they never hatch on the NY side of the river?

Neophylax larvae build cases consisting of grains of sand with a few larger pebbles to act as ballast. These ballast help keep them from being washed away as they feed on algae growth on stones in fast riffles.

Hatching in September, and early October Neophylax provide good fall fishing, with fish activily feeding on both larva, and adults. Even on slow days fishing a tan caddis pupa imitation before the hatch activity begins will usually produce a few fish. Hatching in mid morning to mid afternoon with mating flights taking place in the evening. This offers classic evening fishing opportunities. They begin slowly at first with a few caddis flying upstream over the river, and gradually increase into thousands.
