Like all other Hydropsychidae, H. recurvata larva build nets to trap food drifting in the current. Their diet consist of debris, and smaller insects. H recurvata prefer large rivers, the large upper Delaware makes it feel right at home.

Hydropsyche larvae don't build cases, but build a retreat near their nets camouflaged with small gravel, sand, and plant debris. During the final growth period, or instar they seal themselves inside their retreat where pupation takes place.

Hydropsyche produce huge evening mating, and egg laying flights, with large clouds of insects. C. morosa may be present during these activities.
