Ephemera guttulata nymphs are burrowers and live mostly in the silt and muddy bottoms of slow water. While a few may hatch on the west branch from time to time Green Drakes are found mostly on the lower east branch and main stem preferring the warmer water temperatures that these areas offer. Ephemera guttulata begin hatching in the late evening as the water temperature cools. These large insects bring out the real hogs that feed viscously on them well into the dark. In the early evening mating swarms of spinners begin to appear high above the water, and drop closer to dip their eggs as evening progresses. Feeding on these giant spinners normally begins late in the evening, and continues well into dark. During Green Drake spinner falls huge trout can be heard smashing the waters surface well after the sun has gone down. Good Green Drake spinner falls last only three or four days.
