Timpanoga has been overlooked to the point of not even being mentioned in most fly fishing literature. Overlooked or just mistaken for another insect? I can understand the confusion with it falling into the most confusing category of blue winged olive. Either way Timpanoga simplex should win an award for the most overlooked mayfly that produces fishable hatches. Nymphs prefer slow to medium currents with sandy or silt bottoms. Duns hatch from the late afternoon on into the evening. Although hatches are sometimes, but not always sparse, trout still feed regularly on the freshly hatched duns. Spinners are brown olive to very dark redish brown olive with clear wings.
